Calls for more rental property in London

A growing number of rental specialists in Britain believe that Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s government could be able to increase the supply of quality private sector residential rentals, if they provide landlords with the tools and incentives needed to expand their portfolios. It is believed that one of the best ways that the government might be able to go about this is to through a series of tax incentives and this follows calls from another organization, the Town and Country Planning Organization, for similar encouragement.

The rental market appears to be getting tight in parts of London, especially in the Hammersmith area. Some, however, may wonder why it is wise idea to increase the supply of properties when the rental market is only now recovering from an unbalance between supply and demand caused by the entry of so-called “accidental” landlords. The main reason may be the fact that there is more room for growth in the UK’s private rental sector than in many other European countries, where the buy-to-let industry is more developed. But a more compelling reason relates to social realities in the UK. Britons are holding off on marriage and there are also far more university students than before. Both of these factors contribute greatly to sustained rental demand. While a decade ago, many Britons would see rentals as a short-term option, some are now renting for an extended period of time, as this offers them the most mobility to look for jobs in other regions and does not leave them with a massive mortgage burden.

Fulham lettings agents: Lettings in London SW6

Fulham is adjacent to Chelsea and extremely popular with young professional singles and families. Originally, the area was a market garden and the architecture is mostly Victorian offering a range of family houses and converted flats. Fulham is in high demand with its direct links into the City and offers easy access to West London (i.e. Hammersmith, the M4, Heathrow Airport) and to the South West via the A3.

The abundance of Montessori Schools, nurseries and Prep schools make Fulham a popular choice for many young families, add to this the fact that the area has four parks, all with children’s facilities and tennis courts. The local Hurlingham Club and Harbour Club serve more sporty residents.

Lettings in Fulham SW6

Fulham grew up, like many other parts of London, as a little riverside settlement out of London proper sometime in the 14th century. It wasn’t until the 1840′s that it was finally swallowed by the city – and this explains (to an extent) how it retains its “village” charm.

Nowadays it’s the area to live in if you can’t afford Chelsea or Kensington. However, Fulham is far from cheap though! Fulham is characterised by shockingly expensive terraced houses and quiet evenings.

As you’d expect from an area like this the bars and restaurants aren’t the cheapest – but they do tend to be of a rather high standard. Additionally, since the surroundings are pleasant, Fulham is an excellent place to go for a stroll.

Before you head towards the pub or a restaurant have a look at Fulham Palace (Bishop’s Avenue). This was the summer residence of the Bishop of London from 704 until 1973. It’s not really a palace – more of a Tudor manor, but don’t let that stop you. The grounds themselves are very nice to look at and include a bunch of curiosities – so it’s well the visit.

Barnes Lettings Agents: Lettings in London SW13

Barnes is an attractive residential village located on the south side of the River Thames, opposite Hammersmith. The area has become popular with young professional families. Despite its relatively central location Barnes often seems somewhat removed being a leafy district, surrounded on three sides by the River Thames. The area has many well-proportioned family homes and has a multitude of good local nursery and primary schools. The easy train link to Central London and the proximity of Richmond Park make Barnes an extremely popular choice

Kew, Mortlake & Barnes

Kew village retains all the charm of the eighteenth century when the Hanoverian royal family made it their home. The painter Thomas Gainsborough is buried in Kew Church. The National Archives (formerly the Public Record Office) is also based in Kew, holding 900 years of historical records, including the Domesday Book.

Moving east along the river is Mortlake, finishing point of the annual Oxford v Cambridge boat race, and where eccentric Victorian explorer Richard Burton is buried on a splendid tent shaped tomb in the cemetery.

Nearby Barnes village was home to the composer Gustav Holst and novelist Henry Fielding. Barnes pond and common add to the traditional village feel complete with ducks and geese.

Lettings in Hammersmith W14

Hammersmith is best known for its enormous traffic interchange as opposed to anything particularly nice. That being said, there are spots to visit, which are of interest (if not necessarily of great beauty).

First and foremost you should go along and visit the London Ark (Talgarth Road). A good proportion of you will be well aware of the Ark – it’s one of those “love it or hate it” buildings. Nevertheless, it’s certainly striking and, coupled with its specification as an exceedingly energy efficient operation, is well worth the visit and ensuing arguments.

Following that you can go and have a look at St Peter’s Square. For those of you not in the know, it’s an early 19th century Grade II listed square made even more incongruous in concrete littered Hammersmith.

Travel Links to Barnes

Barnes village is served well by frequently running buses, which go to Putney, East Sheen and Richmond upon Thames as well as Hammersmith in the opposite direction, providing easy and quick access to Hammersmith Underground station.

Barnes also has easy access to M4, A3, M25, Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport.
